Brow & Lash Serum

$49.00

A light 6 ml serum for the brow line and the lash line. Eleven ingredients. No fragrance, no colour, no essential oils, and no prostaglandin analogue — which, given this category's history, is probably the first thing you wanted to know.

What is it? A light, water-continuous serum formulated by a cosmetic chemist in New Zealand, made to condition the brow and lash line.

Why is it a serum and not an oil? Because two things pull against each other and the format is what resolves them. The active is an oil-phase lipid — on chemistry alone the answer would be an oil. But a neat oil can't go on a lash line: it migrates, wicks into the eye, blurs vision, and won't stay where you put it. So the water phase carries the oil-soluble active to a site that can't take a neat oil, in something light enough to sit exactly where it's applied. An oil active, an eye-area site, therefore an emulsion.

Why 6 ml, when the oil is 50? Because a lash line takes a fraction of what a bikini line takes. Six millilitres is three to four months of twice-daily use. The 50 ml oil is six to eight weeks. Cost per month is the comparison that means anything here.

What's the active? Growth Oléoactif, a COSMOS-certified botanical active from roselle flower and safflower floret, extracted into sunflower seed oil — the same extraction platform as the active in our ingrown hair oil.

And what's actually known about it? This is the part worth reading slowly.

The safflower floret half has a published paper behind it. It makes dermal papilla cells and keratinocytes multiply faster, raises VEGF and keratinocyte growth factor, and suppresses TGF-beta — a signal that pushes follicles out of their growing phase. That work was done in cell culture and in cultured mouse follicles. No people, and nothing on brows or lashes. There's a second study where the extract promoted hair growth in mice, using a delivery system that isn't ours. It's a real reason to put the ingredient in a formula. It isn't a reason for us to tell you what the formula will do to your lashes.

The roselle half we know less about. We hold no published hair-specific evidence for it at all, and we've asked the supplier what it contributes and on what basis. Until that arrives, we're not going to imply it's doing documented work.

The supplier markets this active with stronger language than any of the above. We're not inheriting it.

How long? Longer than you'll want. Brow and lash follicles have short growing phases and long overall cycles, so nothing about this is a two-week product. Judge it over months, not weeks.

How to use it

Apply sparingly along the brow line and along the lash line, once or twice a day. A very small amount is enough. Six millilitres is meant to last three to four months, so if you are getting through it faster than that you are using too much. Keep it on the lash line itself and out of the eye.

When not to use it

Not on broken or irritated skin around the eye. If you wear contact lenses or lash extensions, patch test first and see how you go before making it a daily habit. Stop if anything stings, waters or feels gritty, and if irritation carries on, see a doctor.

What this serum has not been shown to do

Nothing here has been tested on people. No consumer assessment, no instrumental measure, no photography under a fixed protocol.

So: we cannot tell you this will grow your lashes, lengthen them, thicken them or increase their number, and we're not going to. No numbers for length, density or count. No "clinically proven." The honest level is what the formula contains and how the brow and lash line looks and feels with continued use.

It will not change your natural lash length or your eye colour.

What would change this paragraph is a lash-specific consumer assessment on the finished serum, described honestly by method and number of participants. Until that exists, this is what we've got, and it's what you're buying.
