What it does

Softens the hair shaft so it grows out instead of curling back into your skin, keeps the skin around the follicle supple, and calms the inflammation that turns a trapped hair into a red bump.

That is the whole mechanism. No mystery complex, no proprietary blend with a trademark symbol.

What it is not

It is not an acid treatment. There is mandelic acid in here at 0.3%, which is a low level chosen for its antibacterial contribution rather than for exfoliation. If you want an exfoliating acid, buy one and use it separately — we will even tell you what to look for.

What this is instead is a barrier and microbiome formula. Most of the work is done by skin-identical lipids, a well-evidenced anti-irritant, and a prebiotic oat active. That is a less dramatic story than an acid peel. It is also the one that matches what is actually in the bottle.

What it feels like

Nothing. In the good way. It is anhydrous — no water, no preservative system, no alcohol, no fragrance — so it doesn't sting on skin you shaved ten minutes ago. It sinks in. It won't wreck your sheets.

How long

Two to three weeks of daily use before you can fairly judge it. Hair growth cycles are slow and nothing applied to the surface changes that. We're telling you the real number because the alternative is you giving up on Thursday.

How to use

Roll it on clean, dry skin once a day — best straight after a shower, while your skin's still warm. Use it on shave days and the days between; consistency is the entire trick. Exfoliate twice a week if you can. A flannel is fine. You don't need to buy anything else.

When not to use it

If a bump is hot, swollen, spreading or painful, that's not an ingrown hair having a bad day — that's something for a doctor. Go see one. We'll be here.

Don't apply it to broken, weeping or infected skin.
